2020 Mazda CX-30 vs 2020 Nissan Kicks

The new Mazda CX-30 is quickly disrupting the subcompact SUV market by introducing performance and other features that shadow the competition. Canadian drivers who own subcompacts, but miss the power and room of larger vehicles, will find the CX-30 hard to pass up. To prove these points, it is important to illustrate these advantages against the competition. Here, we place the 2020 Nissan Kicks in a head-to-head comparison with the 2020 Mazda CX-30.

First, the CX-30 offers more vehicle. This includes dimensions that improve performance and expand storage volume. The CX-30’s length of 4,395 mm complements a wheelbase of 2,652 mm and a height of 1,568 mm. The Kicks doesn’t measure up with a length of 4,295 mm and wheelbase of 2,620 mm. However, its taller stature of 1,586 mm provides a higher center of gravity that makes agility more challenging.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 has power on a different level

The CX-30 model line includes two engines that make this subcompact ready to perform. The GX’s 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, and it also pairs with either FWD and AWD systems. The GS and GT trims include a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that creates 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Nissan Kicks’ FWD-only four-cylinder engine just reaches 122 hp with 114 lb-ft of torque.

The CX-30 offers standard or optional AWD on every model. You will not find AWD as a choice in the Nissan Kicks lineup, which limits the vehicle’s capabilities on all road surfaces. Mazda’s i-Activ AWD takes an intelligent approach to manage all road conditions with active torque adjustments and more. The CX-30 also includes an automatic six-speed transmission with manual shift mode that gives you more control over acceleration - something the Kicks doesn’t offer.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is also a lifestyle vehicle

The CX-30 opens up cargo volume with 1,280 litres behind the front row, exceeding the Kick’s capacity by 265 litres. Whether you are headed for a long weekend in the mountains, sports practice, or elsewhere, the CX-30 makes it possible. Behind the rear seats, the CX-30 offers more shoulder room than the Kicks, providing even more versatility.
