2021 Mazda CX-9 vs. 2021 Kia Sorento: The CX-9 Pulls Ahead With Performance Advancements

The CX-9 is very successful throughout Canada with its performance range, signature Mazda styling, advanced tech, versatility, and more. With room for seven passengers and flexible cargo volume, the CX-9 checks all the boxes of an SUV that rolls with many lifestyles. Each CX-9 also features advanced safety and performance features that make driving more enjoyable and safer.

The CX-9 isn't without competition. Instead, it stands out among the competition. We compare it to the 2021 Kia Sorento for illustration.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 doesn't take performance shortcuts

The CX-9 offers one standard powertrain—a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of responsive torque.

The Kia Sorento only offers its top-performing engine on higher grades. The lineup starts with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It is the only powertrain available in the two lowest grades. The remaining grades receive a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder that has more horsepower than the CX-9, but less torque. The CX-9 adds more value by making its turbocharged powertrain standard on all models, and it is less expensive to access.

The CX-9 extends its possibilities with special equipment. The six-speed automatic transmission features manual shift mode and a drive selection switch controls. This personalizes the CX-9's driving experience, giving you input on how the vehicle responds.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 takes it home with performance technology

The CX-9 moves ahead with its refined agility and handling. It features a better AWD system that continuously reads the road to improve performance.

It also uses the specialized G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) to add even more stability throughout turns. GVC Plus senses steering inputs and speed and changes engine torque to optimize wheel loads throughout turns. The 'Plus' function in GVC applies the brakes to the outside wheels during a turn until the steering wheel returns to neutral.

When the CX-9 is full of passengers, it can load up to 407 litres of cargo behind the rear seats. The 2021 Kia Sorento can only offer 357 litres in the same configuration.

The CX-9 offers many other standard and available features that will help convince you that the CX-9 is the right choice for you. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
