2021 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2022 Kia Seltos: A More Complete Ride

The Mazda CX-30 is the most powerful, dynamic and stylish member of its segment. While its reliability is acclaimed by industry specialists, it is also the most versatile small crossover in the league with plenty of boot space, comfort for all passengers, state-of-the-art technologies and much more. On top of being loaded with features, its interior sports uniquely refined stylish features that can only be found in the CX-30 and higher-priced luxury crossovers.

Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-30 with the 2022 Kia Seltos.

The Mazda CX-30 wins the performance race

Engineering high-performance engines has always been part of Mazda’s DNA. But efficiency also plays a key role in making vehicles like the CX-30 a favourite for Canadian families. The Mazda CX-30 lineup starts with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine that provides 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. It delivers more power and torque than the Seltos’ most common engine, a four-cylinder 2.0 litre unit with 146 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque.

Next up, CX-30 buyers can choose a more powerful 2.5-litre engine that delivers 186 hp. This surpasses the Seltos’ most powerful turbocharged engine, which can only out put 175 hp.

Finally, the available Skyactiv-G 2.5 T Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine outputs up to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, leaving all Kia Seltos models in the dust.

The Mazda CX-30 is also fitted with a sporty Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode and Drive Selection switch that is designed to provide advanced dynamics and a more interactive drive. In most Seltos models, you will find a much less sporty continuously variable transmission.

The CX-30 provides a more refined ride, at a better price

First, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 has a lower starting price than the Kia Seltos, which is impressive considering the enhanced power and dynamics. But the CX30 is also better equipped.

Mazda CX-30 drivers will benefit from a larger 8.8-inch infotainment screen linked to a powerful Mazda Harmonic Accoustics sound system with 8 speakers. The Seltos’ base variant only has an 8-inch screen with a less powerful 6-speaker sound system.
